John Mellencamp could have a permanent place in Indiana, albeit in an unusual way.
Indiana lawmakers are debating putting the musician's name on part of I-65.
The Indiana House passed a resolution Monday to change the road between Exits 34 and 50 to "John Mellencamp Way."
Democratic Rep. Terry Goodin, who sponsored the bill, saidMellencamp's music "reflects the heart and soul of this state."
Mellencamp grew up in the ... "Small Town" ... of Seymour, Indiana, which is near Exit 50 of I-65.
“John Mellencamp is truly ‘the people’s performer’,” Goodin said. “His body of work and his actions on behalf of mankind has brought positive attention to Indiana. I believe that naming a portion of the highway in his honor is a fitting tribute for his many successes.”
The proposal is on its way to the senate for a vote later this week.
