INDIANAPOLIS - Two teens were arrested after a man was hospitalized after he was attacked early Wednesday on the city's east side, dispatchers said.
The assault was reported just before 6:30 a.m. near 16th Street and Hawthorne Lane.
A man who was on his way to work spotted the victim, later identified as 54-year-old Kenneth Haskins, in the street.
Dispatchers said Haskins was rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital suffering from critical head injuries.
Two teens were arrested in connection with the assault later Wednesday afternoon.
Police said the teens, Kyle Mitchell, 18, and Dechel Dossett, 18, burglarized Haskins' home when he was away.
When Haskins came home and interrupted the burglary, the suspects ambushed and beat him, police said.
The suspects left with the stolen goods from the home and two of the victim's cars. Police said both cars were later recovered.
The suspects were initially detained by police as persons of interest earlier in the morning.
Both Mitchell and Dossett were preliminarily charged with attempted murder, robbery, burglary, auto theft and theft, police said.
Haskins remains in critical condition.
