ANDERSON, Ind. - Detectives are investigating after receiving a report that a woman in her 90s was sexually assaulted in her Anderson home late Tuesday night.
Police said the woman was asleep in her home near Pulaski Park when she woke up to an intruder standing over her bed.
The woman told her family about the attack, and her family contacted Anderson police, officials said.
Officials said the woman had bruising, but she did not sustain more serious physical injuries.
Police said there is evidence of a break-in at the woman's home and enough evidence was left behind to develop persons of interest.
Police do not have a suspect in custody.
"This is deplorable. Anderson police are doing everything we can. We've been working around the clock and have been ever since we've became aware of the heinous crime," Detective Joel Sandefur said.
Neighbors in the community said they welcome the increase of police patrols and they said they will rest easier once an arrest has been made.
Police said the victim was recovering with her family.
