FISHERS, Ind. - Police said they arrested a man and woman after catching them trying to break into an unmarked police car in an apartment complex parking lot Thursday morning in Fishers.
Fishers police said at roughly 5:20 a.m., an off-duty Fishers police officer saw a Honda passenger car parked in front of his residence in Woods of Britton Apartment Complex (near 141st Street and Old Oak Drive). The officer said he saw a man attempting to get into his police car, but he was unsuccessful and the officer said the man returned to the Honda.
The officer said the Honda drove away and he followed. On-duty officers were made aware of the situation and a Fishers K-9 unit arrived and initiated a traffic stop on the Honda.
Police said as the Honda slowed to a stop, the male passenger exited the car and ran from police. He was quickly apprehended by the police K-9 unit, however. The female driver remained in the Honda and was arrested without incident.
The man – Shaquille O. Davis, 19, of Indianapolis – was taken to IU Health Saxony Hospital for an injury to his leg, and then was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on three charges: theft, a Class D felony; unauthorized entry into a vehicle, a Class B misdemeanor; and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.
The woman – Clarese Via, 22, of Westfield, Ind. – was taken to jail after being interviewed at the Fishers Police Department and booked on a Class-D felony theft charge.
Police said investigators have located another victim and believe there may be others. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Detective David Finn at 317-595-3300.
