Suspect in custody after hit-and-run leaves man critically injured

Man in critical condition at St. Vincent Hospital

INDIANAPOLIS - A suspect was taken into custody after a pedestrian was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on the city's north side Friday morning, officials said.

The crash was reported about 8:30 a.m. near 71st Street and Westlane Road near Michigan Road.

Few details were released about what happened before the crash, but police said the victim appeared to be in his 50s. He was rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the car that struck the man left the scene, but was later found around 1 p.m. The driver was later identified as Melesio Felix-Francisco.

Officials said Felix-Francisco was taken into custody on a charge of failure to stop causing serious bodily injury.

The victim's identity was not yet released. Police said he remained in critical condition, but was expected to survive.
