PD: Wrong-way driver arrested on DUI charges in Hamilton County

Maria Luna Soto, 30, faces several charges

HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. - A wrong-way driver was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol in Hamilton County early Monday.

Just after midnight, a sergeant with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office spotted a car headed south in the northbound lanes of Keystone Avenue near 96th Street.  The sergeant used his emergency lights and siren to signal the driver to stop, but the driver refused.  The driver continued before merging onto Interstate 465 east, spinning out and striking a barrier.

Once on I-465, the car swerved along the road shoulder and struck another barrier before ending up in a ditch near Allisonville Road.

Indiana State Police and Carmel police officers were called to the scene to help get the driver, identified as Maria Luna Soto, 30, of Indianapolis, out of the car.

Police said Soto appeared to be unconscious and she smelled strongly of alcohol. She was charged with operating while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
