INDIANAPOLIS - A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday night when a van drove on a sidewalk, police said.

The accident happened in the 1100 block of South Prospect Street near Fountain Square.

IMPD said officers arrived to find one unresponsive male victim and another injured male.

Medical crews pronounced one man dead at the scene. The second man, identified as Aaron Schaler, 35, of Indianapolis was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said a red van driven by Joseph Anthony Scott Crandall, 20, of Indianapolis jumped the curb and drove onto the sidewalk, striking the two men.

Police said Crandall was driving south on Shelby Street and turned west onto Prospect Street when the van jumped the curb.

Police said there were no obvious signs of intoxication of the driver, but they will perform a blood test.
