INDIANAPOLIS -- Once you get involved in a presidential campaign, every little thing from your past gets brought to light.
Ind. Gov. Mike Pence may be learning this right now.
On Sunday, BuzzFeed uncovered an op-ed Pence wrote in 1999 -- 17 years ago -- where he argued that "Mulan" was created to make change in the argument for women in the military.
"Obviously, this is Walt Disney’s attempt to add childhood expectation to the cultural debate over the role of women in the military," Pence wrote.
He wrote that a "mischievous liberal" at Disney "assumes that Mulan’s story will cause a quiet change in the next generation’s attitude about women in combat."
Disney's "Mulan" is based off a Chinese poem called "The Ballad of Mulan," which was written around the year 500.

Pence did write that "Mulan" would influence opinion in women in the military.
"Just think about how often we think of Bambi every time the subject of deer hunting comes into the mainstream media debate," he wrote.
He also criticized the movie for having Mulan fall in love with her superior officer.
Me thinks the politically correct Disney types completely missed the irony of this part of the story. They likely added it because it added realism with which the viewer could identify with the characters. You see, now stay with me on this, many young men find many young women to be attractive sexually. Many young women find many young men to be attractive sexually. Put them together, in close quarters, for long periods of time, and things will get interesting. Just like they eventually did for young Mulan. Moral of story: women in military, bad idea.
Pence hasn't said whether or not he still believes this about "Mulan," but in 2013, Donald Trump tweeted a similar thought about women in the military.

Pence's relationship with women in Indiana has been a topic of discussion since he's been governor. He signed HEA 1337, which prohibited abortions on the basis of the race or sex of a fetus, or a potential disability. This prompted "Periods for Pence," where women would flood Pence's office with calls describing the details of their period.
