A Japanese automobile company is getting set to expand its business in Indiana.
Subaru plans to create more than 1,200 jobs at its Lafayette, Indiana facility by the end of 2017.
On Monday, Gov. Mike Pence joined executives from Subaru of Indiana Automotive.
SIA intends to invest more than $140 million as they work to increase its production by 100,000 cars annually.
This news came on the heels of Pence’s jobs and economic development trip to Japan last week.
“We are truly grateful for this widening partnership,” Pence said.
SIA currently employs more than 3,800 Hoosiers and produces approximately 300,000 cars each year.
“The substantial increase in production volume at SIA will also result in new jobs and investment by many of our suppliers across Indiana,” said Tom Easterday, executive vice president of SIA. “We greatly appreciate the support of state and local government for this significant economic development project."
