Pendleton correctional officer arrested, accused of smuggling painkillers

PENDLETON, Ind. -- A correctional officer at the Correctional Industrial Facility in Pendleton was arrested after he tried to smuggle drugs into the prison for an inmate. 

Mark Wooten was preliminarily charged with one count of trafficking in a controlled substance with an inmate and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

A spokesperson for the correctional facility said Wooten consented to a search, and officials found 200 strips of suboxone, an opioid.

The value of the drugs was estimated at $20,000.
