Woman killed, man injured after shooting on city's NW side

IMPD: Nearby chase could have connection

INDIANAPOLIS - A woman was killed and a man was injured after a shooting on the city’s northwest side Tuesday evening, police said.

The incident happened near the 5400 block of Falcon Creek Way, near Lafayette Road and Pike Plaza, just before 10:30 p.m.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the 19-year-old woman was found dead outside of an apartment complex. Family members identified the victim as Tyana Ferrell, Anne Kelly reported. 

Authorities said a 19-year-old man, identified as Shaquille Searcy, was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital after being shot in the leg.

Police said they were investigating a possible connection with those shootings and a police chase on the city’s west side, about seven or eight miles from the scene, based on description.

Officials said police were chasing a car with three people inside. The chase ended in a crash in the 1100 block of Vanceburg Drive, near West Morris Street and Girls School Road. The suspects jumped out of the car and ran away.

Police said two suspects were caught and taken into custody. Authorities were searching for the third person.
