Person killed in head-on collision on SR 44

Police: Weather not believed to be factor

SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. - One person was killed in a head-on collision in Shelby County on Tuesday evening, officials said.

The accident, involving a car and a semi, happened on State Road 44 just east of Old Franklin Road around 4 p.m.

Initial investigations showed that a passenger car was traveling westbound on SR 44 and a semi was driving eastbound on SR 44, officials with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said.

Police said for an unknown reason, the car crossed the center line and struck the semi head-on. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi did not suffer any injuries. Police said weather was not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Officials said SR 44 was closed in the area after the crash.
