NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- An 87-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning in a fire in New Castle, Indiana.

The New Castle Fire Department said the fire was at a house on the 2700 block of Sunnyside Avenue.

When fire crews arrived at the house, they found 66-year-old Robert Perdew on the roof. Firefighters were able to get him down, but found Dorris Perdew, 87, on the floor of the living room. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crews believe an oil space heater started the fire.

Robert was airlifted to St. Vincent in Indianapolis from a New Castle hospital.

Dorris Perdew had lived in the house for 66 years.
