Police looking for maroon SUV

INDIANAPOLIS - Two people were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after an accident Wednesday afternoon near Christian Park, officials said.

The hit-and-run accident involving a moped and an SUV happened in the 4300 block of English Avenue just before 3 p.m.

Two victims from the moped, the male driver, 64, and a female passenger, 56, had serious injuries, police said.

"He was bleeding profusely in two or three spots on his head. I didn't want to roll him over or mess with him because he was lying on his stomach. He had several head wounds from what I could see and the lady was bleeding from her arm, it might even be broken. I checked for a pulse for the gentleman and he did have one, I could see him breathing. But the gas was pouring out of the moped and burning the lady's leg," witness Tim Michem said.

Both victims were taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Both vehicles were traveling westbound on East English Avenue at the time of the crash, but detectives were unsure of the cause.

Police were looking for a maroon SUV that may have damage on the driver's side.

Witnesses said the car could be a Ford Expedition or a GMC Yukon with a sticker in the back window.

That car was last seen traveling northbound through the park, witnesses said.
