INDIANAPOLIS - Police responded to a shooting Friday morning that reportedly occurred in a parking lot on the east side of Indianapolis after a man withdrew cash from an ATM.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) said just before 6 a.m., a report came in of someone shot in the parking lot at 4355 E. 10th St., near a PNC Bank in the Linwood Square Shopping Center.
Our RTV6 crew saw the ambulance leaving the scene just as our crew arrived. The victim is stable at Eskenazi Health, police said.
Police said the victim was pulling cash out of the PNC Bank ATM when an armed man approached him demanding money. The robber shot the victim in the arm and took off running. The robber got away with the cash, but details were not made available on the amount of cash stolen.
After the shooting, witnesses reported seeing someone running from the scene toward Bosart Avenue, just east of the shopping center's parking lot. The man was described as black, dressed in all black, running north from the crime scene.
Police and K-9 units began searching nearby neighborhoods for the robber and investigators put crime-scene tape up around a car parked in the lot, which appeared to still be running as of 6:30 a.m.
IMPD detectives said they believe the video footage from the ATM's camera may assist in determining the identity of the robber, and efforts are already underway to get their hands on the footage from PNC.
