Driver dies after being shot, crashing car

INDIANAPOLIS – One of two people shot in separate incidents Thursday night has died.

Police were on patrol just before 7 p.m. when they heard shots fired in the area of Kitley Avenue at Meadowlark Drive on the northeast side. They observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed that drove through a privacy fence and struck a house in the 6600 block of Meadowlark Drive.

Officers found a man in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head. That man, 64-year-old Leroy Lee, succumbed to his injuries Friday morning. 

A child was found unharmed in the front seat of the vehicle. Officers believe the child was the Lee's grandson. 

Detectives urge anyone with information about this incident to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-TIPS (8477).  All information shared via Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana is considered anonymous.

A separate shooting happened around 6 p.m. on the 4900 block of Manker Street, near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Thompson Road.

Police said the victim was shot in the hand and was awake and breathing.

No information about suspects was immediately available.
