NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- Humane Society for Hamilton County officials say they have a 'person of interest' in the case of a 3-month-old puppy that was thrown over the shelter's fence Monday morning.

The Humane Society posted to its Facebook page Monday that the puppy was hypothermic with a large gash on its head when it was found at 7:40 a.m. The puppy had apparently been thrown over the fence, and had a jump rope tied around its neck that had gotten tangled in play equipment in the shelter's yard.

Shelter employees brought the pit bull puppy, who they named Miri, inside and fed and warmed her up.

"She is now warm, fed and happy as can be," Humane Society officials wrote on the Facebook page.

Shelter staff say they would love for Miri to go to a foster-to-adopt home. They also want to bring the person who threw her over the fence to justice.

"We are open seven days a week and there is simply no reason this puppy couldn't have been brought to us during business hours," they said.

Anyone with information about the person who dumped Miri should contact the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department at 317-773-1282.
