Plainfield officer hurt in motorcyle collision

PLAINFIELD, Ind. - A Plainfield police officer has been injured after a collision with a truck Friday afternoon.

Hendricks County Dispatchers confirmed that Plainfield PD Officer Greg Bergesen was involved in a collision on Stafford Road in Plainfield at around 2 p.m. Friday.

Bergesen, a 22-year-veteran of the department, was on his motorcycle with lights flashing while responding to an unconscious person. Bergesen apparently attempted to pass a Duke Energy truck, also westbound on Stafford, when the truck turned into the path of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the truck, causing Bergesen to slide forty feet before coming to rest against a tree line.

Bergesen was rushed to IU Health West Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Duke Energy truck was not injured. Police said the driver may have been confused as to where Bergesen's motorcycle was, and inadvertently turned into its path.
