INDIANAPOLIS - Attending the Indiana State Fair doesn’t have to drain a bank account. Deals such as $2 Tuesday help fairgoers take in the attractions on a budget.
Some families bring their own water and make sure to have cash on hand to avoid higher fees at the ATMs on fairground property, but there are other deals to take advantage of at the fair.
A Turkey Hill voucher is helping people get into the fair for just $2 on Tuesdays. Vendors were also offering food specials and cheaper rides in the midway.
Several places allow people to sample the taste of Indiana for free. Fairgoers can a get a bag of Hoosier-made popcorn in the Farm Bureau building and Turkey Hill Dairy is offering free ice cream all day in front of the communications building.
There are plenty of attractions around the fair that don't require any extra cash.
Fairgoers can visit the glass barn where "picture you on a farm" allows a person to select the background, snap the picture and send it to their personal email account.
In the livestock nursery, fairgoers can try their hand at milking a cow or maybe even see a calf being born.
Kids can also go through hunter education and target practice.
In the Agriculture and Horticulture building, people can see everything from honey bees to the largest popcorn ball and a huge stalk of corn.
Stop by the Ball State University booth and get a chance to be a newscaster for a few minutes. They will even make a free DVD of the performance.
In the Home and Family Art building fairgoers can check out award-winning photography.
"If you really are on a tight budget but want to bring your family out to the fair, then just plan your day and you're going to be able to do that, " fair spokesman Andy Klotz said.
The deals don’t end there. Wednesday has a $5 admission discount with a Bureau of Motor Vehicles voucher. Thursday has a deal for AAA members to get in for free. Unlimited Midway rides can be purchased for $25 Thursday and Friday.
Also, take advantage of another free deal by parking at Glendale Mall and taking the free shuttle to the fair to save $5.
