INDIANAPOLIS - One man was killed and two men were arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash on the city's east side early Friday.
It happened just after 3 a.m. near Arlington Avenue and Brookville Road, when a white GMC van and a silver Ford Explorer collided, RTV6's Chance Walser reported.
Police said the van ran the red light at the intersection, hitting the Explorer.
Immediately after the crash, two men in the van jumped out and ran from the crash scene, but police were able to catch them after a short chase.
The driver of the SUV, 60-year-old Timothy Jacobs, of Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the van, Jorge Ortega, 30, of Indianapolis, and his passenger, Serafin Quiroz-Perez, were taken into custody.
Police said they believe alcohol was a factor in the cause of the crash and Ortega was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death.
Quiroz-Perez was preliminarily charged with possession of a controlled substance.
Both suspects were taken to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center pending final charges by the Marion County Prosecutor's Offices.
