DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. - Indiana State Police investigated a two vehicle head-on crash that occurred Friday morning on State Road 1, which claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl.
State Trooper Gary Gerardot said two cars collided head-on in a curve on SR 1 just north of County Road 72 at 8:30 a.m.
A front seat passenger of one of the vehicles was killed and pronounced dead at the scene by the DeKalb County Coroner’s Office, according to a media release.
Police identified the passenger as Ryan K. Turner, 45, of Butler, Ind.
Turner was wearing his seatbelt at the time, but he did not survive his injuries, a media release said.
A rear-seat passenger in the same car was critically injured and taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in critical condition.
That passenger was identified as Aiyana Mills, 13, and she died as a result of her injuries early Saturday afternoon, police said.
It is not known if she was wearing her seatbelt.
The drivers of both vehicles were taken to a Fort Wayne hospital and their conditions are not known, said a media release.
The results of the investigation are still pending.
