ANDERSON -
Two women were arrested on meth charges during a traffic stop late Thursday after being pulled over by police for a broken headlight.
Police said they spotted a Nissan SUV with a broken headlight near 53 rd Street and Columbus Avenue around 11:30 p.m. and became suspicious after making contact with the driver.
Assistance from K-9 police was called to the scene. K-9 Officer Murtaugh alerted state troopers to drugs inside the SUV, and a further search found meth and products used to make the drug.
Police said the driver, Alisha Madewell, 27, was arrested on several felonies including possession of meth and operating a vehicle while intoxicated. She was also charged with driving on a suspended license, police said.
Ashley Ann Baker, 25, a passenger in the SUV, was arrested on several felony charges including meth possession.
Madewell and Baker were taken into custody at the Madison County Jail.
