BEDFORD, Ind. - A Bedford Middle School student faces possible criminal charges for bringing a gun to school, police said.
School officials learned late Friday evening that a student brought a stolen handgun to school earlier that day.
According to a media release, another student saw the handgun during the day and reported the incident to the student's parents when the student arrived home from school.
The parents immediately contacted law enforcement personnel about the situation, the media release said.
The Bedford Police Department quickly launched an investigation aided by the school corporation.
With the cooperation of the accused student's guardian, law enforcement was able to locate and recover the handgun.
The student is in custody and faces possible criminal charges in connection with bringing the gun to school.
The school has implemented immediate disciplinary action against the student.
