INDIANAPOLIS - A man who was shot and killed when he broke into an apartment on Indianapolis' west side early Friday had forced his way inside the home before, police said.
Officers were called to the 7600 block of Wyckford Court just before 6 a.m. on reports of a burglary in progress with a possible shooting.
When officers arrived, they found the intruder shot to death inside the apartment. He was later identified as Clint Anderson, 31.
There were four children in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but they were not harmed, police said.
Indianapolis police Sgt. Linda Jackson said the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation involving an active restraining order against the suspect.
"There was an earlier incident this year, January of this year, when the subject made entry, broke in the front door went into the apartment. The protective order stemmed from that incident it has been in place since then," Jackson said.
Police did not release who fired the fatal shots.
"He broke into her house, a horrible, violent crime. But she was able to protect herself an her children," Jackson said. "That is a sad situation, but it it shows you the escalation domestic violence cases can take when there is some intervention and legal process that has been put into place."
