MONTICELLO, Ind. - A man was arrested early Saturday morning after his mother and 6-year-old half-sister were stabbed to death in their home.
Indiana State Police said officers were called to a home at 5642 E. Richey Park in Monticello, in White County, after dispatchers received a 911 call about possible stabbings.
Police said David Scott Rodenbarger, 20, stabbed his mother, Michelle Haskins, 41, and his half-sister, Jillian Haskins, 6.
"Michelle was able to make the 911 call before succumbing to her injuries," said ISP Sgt. Ann Wojas, in a news release. "Jillian was taken to White County Memorial Hospital in Monticello, where she was pronounced dead."
Rodenbarger was arrested on murder charges and was being held Saturday in the White County Jail.
Jason Hines, a former classmate of Rodenbarger, said he did not predict this path for his peer.
"He was actually really cool in school," Hines said. "He was in our musicals. And then when I come to find out that he went from that, it's just sad."
Police said they don't know what led to the stabbings.
Neighbor Jim Ousley said the mother and daughter's absence in the neighborhood is very noticeable.
"You drive by daily and you see them outside playing in the yard and snow, and it's just eerie driving by and seeing an empty driveway and an empty house," Ousley said.
Funeral arrangements for both victims will be held Wednesday morning in Monticello.
