ISP: Driver hurt, arrested in DUI crash

Luke Kern, 23, had BAC of 3-times the legal limit

DUBOIS COUNTY - A man who was injured when he totaled his truck  in a crash was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, Indiana State Police said.

The incident happened in Dubois County Sunday just before 9 p.m. in the 5900 block of East State Road 56 when police got a report of a crash involving one vehicle.

ISP investigators said a 2003 gray GMC pickup truck veered off the road before hitting an embankment. The driver, Luke Kern, 23, was not wearing a seatbelt and he hit his head on the windshield, police said.

Kern was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment. While at the hospital, police tested his blood alcohol and the results showed Kern's levels were .27 percent, more than three times the legal limit of .08 percent.

Once Kern was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody at the Dubois County Jail.

His truck was totaled in the crash, police said.
