INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police officers found $2.5 million worth of drugs during a traffic stop last month.

An IMPD Criminal Interdiction Detective and his K-9 partner stopped a semi heading to the east coast Monday, November 23, 2015.

During the stop, east of downtown Indianapolis, detectives found over 40 kilos of drugs including heroin, cocaine and meth.

The driver of the semi was arrested in a different state, but is expected to be transported back to Indianapolis to face federal charges. According to IMPD, it is not known if the suspect has been transported back to Indianapolis.

"This serves as an example of our continued fight against the illegal transportation and distribution of illegal narcotics," Chief Rick Hite said in a press release.

"Our detectives along with our federal partners will work to ensure prolific offenders are identified and apprehended when possible."

A previous version of this story used information from the IMPD Facebook page that said the drugs were found Thursday. IMPD later sent a press release that said the drugs were found in November.
