MUNCIE, Ind. - Police said a jogger suffered serious injuries after she was hit by a car at a busy intersection near Ball State University’s campus.
The Muncie Police Department (MPD) said at 4 p.m. Tuesday, a 20-year-old Ball State student was jogging near the intersection of Wheeling and Riverside avenues.
Police said a young Muncie woman driving her car told officers she did not see student Emily Case, of Columbus, because she was not paying attention, and ran the red light while northbound on Wheeling.
Case was on a crosswalk at the time and had the green light when she was hit, MPD said.
Investigators said Case’s head hit the car’s windshield. She was rushed to Ball Memorial Hospital in serious condition and received scans to determine the extent of her head injuries. Officers said, however, they believe she did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the car was cited for disregarding a signal.
