Police investigate after 2 shot near Lafayette Square mall

Few details released

INDIANAPOLIS - Two people found shot near Lafayette Square Mall likely shot each other, police said Friday.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of Brock Street, about a mile from the mall, just after 10 p.m. Thursday on reports of shots fired.

They found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Minutes later, a second man was found shot multiple times in a vehicle outside the Shoppers World store in the 3900 block of Lafayette Road.

Police said they believe that man was also shot in the 4900 block of Brock Street, but that he then drove himself to the mall.

Both men were taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital in critical condition. They were upgraded to stable condition Friday and are expected to survive, police said.

Police said they believe the mall is a safe place.

"We have people there every day, going to and from and enjoying the property, so we think it's a safe place to be, and we're doing everything we can to make sure it stays that way," said Lt. Mark Wood.
