WARREN COUNTY, Ind. - A body was discovered in a Warren County field Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The body was found near Warren County Roads 600 North and 900 East after authorities responded to a call of a wrecked car in a wooded area.
When officials with the Indiana State Police arrived to the scene, they found the wrecked vehicle with no occupants inside.
Police said they searched the area and found a body about 120 yards from the car.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle was a rental car that had been reported as stolen by the rental company after it was not returned, police said.
Officials said the car was allegedly rented by Tracey Rutel, 51, of Indianapolis. Authorities said Rutel was reported as a missing person to the Muncie Police Department on Aug. 20, 2013.
An autopsy conducted Thursday failed to reveal the identity of the deceased or the manner of death, police said.
Officials will attempt to identify the suspect using dental records and DNA samples.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact ISP Detective Tom Minnicus by calling 765-567-2125.
