INDIANAPOLIS - Homicide detectives were investigating after a woman's body was found in a vacant lot on the city’s east side Tuesday afternoon.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called to the scene in the 800 block of Tacoma Avenue at 2 p.m.
Officials said it appeared the body had been there for at least a couple days.
"I was basically doing a yard check, walking through the yard because my dogs were barking, and I've been having problems with dead animals put along my fence from my neighbors, and I was getting the smell of a dead carcass, and I came across the dead body leaning against my fence," a neighbor said.
Police said the death was suspicious, but they were not calling the death a homicide.
Police said more information, including the cause of death, would be revealed following an autopsy Wednesday.
