INDIANAPOLIS - Police roped off a sidewalk in downtown Indianapolis, where officers said a teenage boy was shot and killed after downtown fireworks festivities.
Officers at the crime scene on West Maryland Avenue and South Meridian Street told the Call 6 Investigators the boy was shot as large crowds roamed outside the Circle Center Mall.
It's the same mall where police have struggled with unruly crowds of teenagers and other violence in recent months.
Police said they weren't yet sure what exactly transpired to escalate into gunfire.
The boy, later identified as Monquize Edwards, of Indianapolis, was rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital, where he died. Homicide squad detectives arrived to gather evidence and try to piece together what happened and who shot the teen.
Police asked anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 317-272-TIPS.
