CARMEL, Ind. - A 17-year-old girl was shot during a robbery at a Carmel home Monday, police said.

The incident happened just after noon a home in the 12000 block of Amethyst Circle, near Clay Spring Drive and Clay Center Road.

Police said the girl was home on fall break when a man broke into the house.

The girl was shot in the leg. She was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in good condition.

"She's such a sweet kid, just a great family, it's real unfortunate," said neighbor Jules Johnson.

Police had established a perimeter in the neighborhood in their search for the suspect.

The sight of police dressed like soldiers with high-powered guns and K-9s drew people from their homes.

"I felt like I was in a movie, I'm like really this is happening in our neighborhood this is weird," Johnson said.

The shooter was described as white, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black mask.

"What we'd like to do is ask anyone who sees anything, who knows anything at all, to give us a call and let us know any information they might have about this circumstance," said Carmel police Officer DJ Schoeff.

Anyone with information is asked to call Carmel police at 317-571-2511.
