CAMBY, Ind. -- A meeting between an estranged husband and wife in a Camby parking lot turned deadly Monday afternoon.

Police now say the man and woman met in the parking lot of the Rancho Grande restaurant on the 8400 block of Windfall Lane in Camby on Monday.

At some point during the meeting, police believe Thomas drew a 9mm gun and shot his wife twice – once in the leg and once in the head.

He then turned the gun on himself. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Nina was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis, where she was reportedly stable and speaking with investigators Monday night.

According to Damar Services, Nina Himes has worked for the company since 2008.

A phenomenal employee, she has one of the most important jobs at Damar - helping to share the futures of those we serve. Working as a direct care staff person, she positively impacts individuals with developmental disabilities and autism. We've spoken with the family this afternoon and send our prayers for a full recovery to health - Jenny Peters, VP, Communications, Damar Services, Inc.

Police are investigating the incident as an attempted murder followed by an apparent suicide.

Police said there was a no-contact order in place between the couple. It wasn't immediately clear who initiated the meeting.
