GREENWOOD, Ind. - A man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting at a Greenwood apartment complex shot himself during a pursuit with police then crashed his truck into a home, authorities said.
Kevin L. Sharrett , 44, died of the self-inflicted gunshot wound, Greenwood police said.
Officers were called to 1682 Cornwall Court, just south of Curry Road off State Road 135, on Wednesday afternoon on reports of a domestic violence situation.
Police said Sharrett went to his estranged wife's apartment about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon, where he had a verbal altercation with her boyfriend then left the apartment.
Sharrett and his estranged wife were expected to finalize their divorce next month, police said.
Police said Sharrett returned to the apartment and assaulted his wife, who ran to a neighbor's apartment to call 911.
When police responded to the scene, they found the woman's boyfriend, Steve Lively, 47, of Indianapolis, unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the head, officers said.
The woman gave a description of her husband's two vehicles, and police began a search.
Multiple agencies joined in the search for the suspect and his blue 1997 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
A short time later, Sharrett crashed the truck into a home in Heartland Crossing in Camby, police said.
Two people were in the home at the time of the crash, but they said the truck just missed them.
Police said they believe Sharrett shot himself during the chase, which caused the truck to careen into the home. Sharrett died on his way to surgery at Wishard Memorial Hospital, officials confirmed.
Sharrett's wife was taken to the hospital in unknown condition, but her injuries are not life threatening, police said.
