INDIANAPOLIS - Police have linked a championship ring worn by a 20-year-old Indianapolis man to the death of his girlfriend's 4-month-old daughter.
Jared Tapley was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder in the death of the baby.
Officers were called to a home in the 3600 block of North Euclid Avenue last Thursday after a man called 911 saying a baby was not breathing.
The 4-month-old was resuscitated en route to Riley Hospital for Children, but later died Saturday afternoon, police said.
Doctors said the baby's injuries appeared to be suspicious.
Investigators said an imprint left on the baby's face resembles the imprint of Tapley's ring, which implied that he struck the baby.
Tapley won the ring when the Indy Metro Pumas took the state title in 2011.
