INDIANAPOLIS - Metro police said a liquor store employee shot and killed a customer Saturday morning.

Police responded to Stony's Still Liquors, 5135 E. 10th St., near 10th Street and Emerson Avenue just before 11 a.m.

Police told RTV6 that the victim, 27-year-old Warren R. Pope of Indianapolis, refused to pay for an item then engaged in a struggle with the store owner when the owner tried to escort the man out of the store.

"He had the manager down on the ground and the store clerk came to the aid of the manager," IMPD spokesman Michael Hewitt said.

Police said the clerk then shot Pope, who made it to the parking lot before collapsing.

The clerk has not been charged with a crime, but police are questioning the person.

Once the police investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the prosecutor's office to see if any charges will be filed.
