INDIANAPOLIS - Police are looking for a teenage boy who stole a woman's purse and pushed her down in the parking lot of a Walgreens store.

Metro police were called to the pharmacy at 16th and Meridian streets just before 5 p.m. Friday, where they found the woman visibly shaken and suffering minor injuries, police said.

The woman told police she was walking to her car when a male ran up behind her and grabbed her purse from her shoulder, pushing her down onto the ground.

Police are looking for a black male who is about 15 to 16 years old about 5 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray pants and red tennis shoes. Police said he was last seen running south from the Walgreens.

Police said they think the suspect entered the store before the robbery then attacked the woman after they had both exited the store.

Store managers said there are security guards who work there at night, but the robbery happened during the day.

Police are hopeful someone will recognize the teen and will come forward. Shoppers said the incident is a reminder to be vigilant.

"I know it can be dangerous. There are people with problems, and I try to keep my eyes open to what’s going on," said shopper Cindy Stansil.

"That was shocking and scary," said a shopper who didn’t want to provide her name.

Black Brunning, a black belt instructor at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy, said everyone should have tools to defend themselves, even if an attacker has surprise and size in their favor.

"Awareness is always a good thing," Brunning said. "They're looking for someone who doesn't pay attention to what’s going on. They're looking for someone that's very focused."

Anyone with information about the identity of the suspect is asked to call IMPD Robbery Detective Kevin Laureman at 317-327-1755. To submit an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS or text "INDYCS" and tip information to 274627.
