INDIANAPOLIS -- Police arrested a woman who they say struck an 8-year-old boy with her vehicle on Indianapolis' west side Thursday morning, then drove off.

The boy was struck on the 700 block of Belmont Avenue around 9 a.m.

Police say he was trying to cross the street when he was hit by a green Chevy Trailblazer. They believe the vehicle is from either 2007 or 2008. The woman driving the car stopped, got out and told the boy "You're OK, you're OK."

Then when a parent came up to talk to her, she got back into the vehicle and drove off. Police describe her as a small, Hispanic woman with short hair and glasses.

The boy's leg was hurt and he was taken to Riley Hospital by a parent.

Police say Nancy Romero-Gonzalez, 33, surrendered to police Thursday afternoon.

She was arrested for failure to stop at a personal injury accident and operating a motor vehicle - never received a license.
