WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- A former McDonald's employee is accused of stealing dozens of customers' account information while working the drive-thru in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Court documents show Mekeisha Roberts, 25, admitted to skimming information from about 100 credit and debit cards while working at the McDonald's on Sagamore Parkway.

Police detectives say the surveillance footage shows her swiping the cards to process a customer's order, then swiping again through a handheld skimming device to get the account information.

She told police she used the account numbers to buy items from different retail stores, officer say.

Damien Smith, 23, and another man are accused of helping her. Smith and Roberts both face several felony charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud and corrupt business influence.

Roberts last worked at the McDonald's in December.

"I checked my statements to make sure I wasn't one of the victims," said Susan Hancock, who frequents the McDonald's. "The register is right there so I don't know, I just watch it go once -- and if it goes more than once I will question why it went more than once. "

Reduce your chances of becoming a victim by keeping your card within eyesight, paying with cash whenever possible and checking account statements regularly.
