MUNCIE, Ind. - A Muncie mom was accused of driving under the influence of alcohol on Monday with her two children in tow.
About 3:30 p.m., an Indiana State Police sergeant said he noticed a Chevrolet Trail Blazer speeding in the south lanes of State Road 67 near Cowan Road in Delaware County. According to the report, the vehicle was clocked at 96 mph in a 66 mph zone.
When the sergeant pulled the SUV over, he noticed that the driver, Melissa Lyght, 29, of Muncie, appeared intoxicated. He also noticed her 3-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter who were also in the SUV.
Upon further investigation, ISP said Lyght was indeed intoxicated and her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit of .08 percent.
Lyght was charged with several felonies including operating while intoxicated with a passenger less than 18 and two counts of neglect of a dependent. She was taken to the Delaware County Jail, police said.
Police said the children were not harmed. They are in custody of another relative.
