Police, neighbors continue search for killer

Police looking for man in Hyundai Sonata

INDIANAPOLIS - Residents of one neighborhood on the city’s north side were on edge as police continued their search for their neighbor’s suspected killer.

A gunman broke into Thomas Tefft’s house and shot him before stealing his car near the 7800 block of Harcourt Road Friday morning.

Neighbors stood by as police strategized their next move Saturday afternoon.

Police said the theme for the shift on Saturday was to keep all eyes open for the killer and the car.

Neighbor Wendy Wheeler was shaken by the violence.

“He could have just taken the car and left, and instead he had to perpetuate that and add violence to it and murder someone,” Wheeler said.

Tefft’s missing vehicle is a black 2009 Hyundai Sonata with Indiana Wesleyan license plate No. IW813.

While police work to secure the vehicle, others are thinking about securing their own vehicles, homes and families.

“I’m constantly thinking now, do we upgrade our security here at the house? I’m not a proponent of guns, but as many break-ins and stuff that have been around here, I am thinking about protection,” said neighbor Kevin Henn.

Some family members of Tefft addressed police and thanked them for their efforts in the search for justice.
