Police catch suspects after attempted robbery, chase

Police: Homeowner fired shots at suspects

INDIANAPOLIS - Police captured two robbery suspects after a chase through Hamilton County Tuesday morning.

Officials responded to the 8700 block of Green Branch Lane just before noon, where a homeowner had fired shots at two would-be robbers.

It turned out the home owners are both retired from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and the man who lived in the home was armed.

"The suspects rang the doorbell continuously, probably to see if someone was home. At that point the homeowner looked out the window, saw a car in the driveway he did not recognize. As he's walking toward the door to see what they wanted, they were kicking the door. He retrieved his firearm at that point and by the time he retrieved his firearm, they had kicked in the door and made it inside the house and the homeowner fired three shots," Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Chris Bailey said.

The suspects were not hit by the shots, but police said they were scared enough that they left a stolen car in the driveway and ran north into the Fishers area.

Police set up a perimeter while searching for the suspects near 96th Street between Cumberland Road and Windermere Boulevard.

The two suspects were apprehended just after noon at 10515 Hawks Ridge Court in Fishers, about 2 miles from the home where the attempted robbery occurred.

The suspects, a 16-year-old and a 25-year-old, were escorted from the back yard where they were caught to awaiting police cars and were taken to the Marion County Jail.

Charges have not yet been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
