Police search for truck in hit-and-run crash that seriously injured pedestrian

Man hospitalized in serious condition

INDIANAPOLIS - Police are looking for a driver of a pickup truck after a man was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash early Tuesday on the city's east side.

The crash was reported just before 4 a.m. near the 5700 block of Massachusetts Avenue when Indianapolis Metro Police Department officers found an injured man on the side of the road. The unidentified victim was taken to Eskenazi Health Hospital and was last listed in serious condition.

IMPD detectives said they believe the man was walking southwest on Massachusetts Avenue when he was struck from behind by a pickup truck heading in the same direction.  The driver of the truck slowed down after the crash, but did not stop to help the victim. The victim was found about 10 minutes later by another passing driver.

Police described the pickup truck involved in the crash as light-colored with possible front passenger side damage.
