COLUMBUS, Ind. - Police believe they have found the body of missing 57-year-old Vonda D. Fivecoat of Columbus.
Fivecoat had last been seen on Dec. 20, and police had issued a Silver Alert and asked for the public's assistance in finding her.
The body was found in a white SUV belonging to Fivecoat in a ditch just west of Marr Road on the northeast side of Columbus Friday, police said.
Police preliminarily identified the deceased as Fivecoat, but the identity will be confirmed.
Investigators believe the vehicle left Marr Road, traveled across a field and stopped in the brush line sometime before Wednesday’s heavy snow storm.
Branches weighed down by snow covered the vehicle, making it difficult to see, but a driver spotted it and called police.
Police said Fivecoat was last seen at her home in Columbus in the 2900 block of Beech Drive.
Before she went missing, Fivecoat had called a family member and 911 to report that she wasn't feeling well.
When medical personnel arrived at her home, they found it unlocked and discovered that Fivecoat's purse and vehicle were gone.
Detective Ryan Linneweber said Fivecoat might have been "confused and disoriented" and that she suffered from anxiety, depression and paranoia.
Police said there had been no activity on Fivecoat's bank accounts since she'd been missing.
A cause of death has not been determined.
