BOONE COUNTY, Ind. - One person was killed in a crash involving five vehicles, officials said.
Emergency crews responded to the scene of the accident in Boone County -- near the intersection of State Road 32 and 500 West near Lebanon -- about 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Images from Skycam 6 showed one passenger car partially underneath the cab of one of the semis.
Officials with the Boone County Sheriff's Department said a car was driving westbound on SR 32 and slowed down to make a left turn into the driveway of a church. The car made it safely to the driveway.
The driver of a semi swerved to avoid hitting the back of the car and went into a ditch, police said. A second semi jackknifed as the driver attempted to avoid hitting the truck heading into the ditch.
A vehicle traveling eastbound on SR 32 then crashed into the back of the cab of the jackknifed truck, and the driver was killed, police said.
Officials said three people in a second car were injured and taken to Witham Hospital after their vehicle got caught up in the accident.
A third semi also became entangled in the accident, police said.
An additional crash involving two semis happened as a result of the first crash. There were no injuries reported in that accident.
State Road 32 was closed for several hours after the crash but reopened just before 8 p.m.
