Police suspect alcohol involved in fatal Pendleton Pike crash

INDIANAPOLIS - A man was killed in a two-car crash near Pendleton Pike Monday night, police said.

The crash was reported just before 8:30 p.m. in the 7400 block of Pendleton Pike near the Interstate 465 ramp.

Investigators said a white pickup truck was headed west on Pendleton Pike before it turned to enter the ramp onto I-465. A compact vehicle was traveling east on Pendleton Pike when it was struck by the pickup. Witnesses told police the white pickup truck was seen speeding and swerving on Pendleton Pike just before the crash.

The driver of the compact vehicle was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in critical condition where he later died. The victim's name was not released. 

The driver of the white pickup truck and a passenger were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police said they suspect alcohol was involved in the cause of the crash. The driver of the white pickup truck was given a blood test and could face charges depending on the outcome of the test.

The crash is under investigation by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
