COLUMBUS, Ind. - A 13-year-old Columbus boy was airlifted after he was struck on his way to school Monday, police said.

Jalen Lee, a student at Central Middle School, was crossing Marr Road at Hollowell Street to catch his bus just after 7 a.m. when he walked into the path of an oncoming truck, police said.

Lee was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and later airlifted to Indiana University Health's Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. His condition was not released.

Police said the driver of the truck, Kyle McLeod, 51, was unable to avoid hitting Lee in the rainy and dark conditions.

McLeod had not been cited Monday afternoon.
