MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. - An Indianapolis woman now faces life as a single mother after Morgan County authorities said her boyfriend was shot and killed.
Police said Wyatt Carrender, 19, was shot by his father in front of his pregnant girlfriend Sunday night.
"I loved him to pieces, he was my best friend," Carrender’s girlfriend Sabrina Canfield said. "He was just an upbeat happy guy. He was just always up for doing something."
Court documents described an argument that happened earlier in the evening at Buffalo Wild Wings in Indianapolis. The documents said the father and son argued from Indianapolis all the way to Morgan County.
Canfield told police that moments before the shooting, Carrender was making sure she was OK after witnessing the fighting.
Witnesses told authorities the confrontation came to an end when David Carrender shot Wyatt Carrender several times outside an upstairs bedroom while Canfield was watching.
Authorities said during questioning at the Morgan County Jail, David Carrender admitted to shooting his son with a 40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun.
He also admitted to drinking before authorities said he told them he killed “the only thing that he loved most in the world,” police said.
Canfield, three-months pregnant, said while she is having a rough time, she is leaning on her family.
Her family has started a fund to help her unborn child. Click here for more information.
