INDIANAPOLIS - An office manager has been accused of stealing more than $177,000 from the church where she worked, the Marion County prosecutor's office announced Tuesday.
Stephanie Hicks is charged with theft and forgery for using Pleasant View Lutheran Church's credit card and checking account for unauthorized purchases, officials said.
According to court documents, Hicks made $48,000 in unauthorized purchases on the church's credit card then used the church's checking account to pay the balances.
She is also accused of transferring about $129,000 from the church's account into her personal account, and forging the signature of the church's treasurer on two checks.
Prosecutor Terry Curry's office said the investigation into the allegations against Hicks began in April.
Hicks worked at the church for about 13 years.
